Madison County comprises 285 miles of the piedmont plateau in Northeast Georgia. Danielsville is 17 miles northeast of Athens, 80 miles northeast of Atlanta, and 87 miles of Greenville, S.C.
The county is served by Interstate Highway 29 and Georgia Highways 72, 98, 106, 172, 174, and 281. The CSX railroad crosses the southern portion of the county; Georgia highway 72, which parallels the track, is a four lane highway running from Athens to major cities in South Carolina. Ongoing efforts to establish a rail passenger service will benefit Madison County residents.
Bus and air transportation is available in Athens, and major airports are easily accessible in Atlanta and Greenville, S.C.
